Ribbon-Cutting Event Planned for New Maintenance Facility
AMES, Iowa – The public is welcome to attend a ribbon-cutting event for the new Ames Parks and Recreation Maintenance Facility, 700 E. 13th St., at noon on Wednesday, April 22.
This new facility includes offices, restrooms, a break/meeting room for staff, and more than 7,500-square-feet of storage for Parks and Recreation equipment and materials. The facility consolidates regularly used equipment to one site and removes equipment from sites that are near the end of life or in a flood plain.
The new facility, located south of the existing maintenance building, cost $1.5 million. It was designed by SVPA Architects and constructed by King Construction.
“This completed facility will improve the efficiency of park maintenance by providing a central place for staff, equipment, and materials,” said Parks and Recreation Director Keith Abraham. “The space was carefully designed with employee input, and we are excited to use it.”
The Parks and Recreation Department manages more than 40 parks and offers approximately 180 athletic, aquatic, instructional, and wellness programs. For more information, go to the Parks and Recreation website at www.amesparkrec.org or call the Community Center at 515.239.5350.
