Traffic Advisory – Luke Combs Concert (Saturday 4/11)

Traffic Advisory for Luke Combs Concert (Saturday 4/11)

Jack Trice Stadium will be hosting Luke Combs on Saturday, April 11. We’re excited to welcome everyone to Ames, and we want you to be prepared before you head out.

Traffic control will operate similar to football games, but with a few added complications:

  • Grass lots may be closed due to rain. Monitor ISU channels for updates.
  • No east bound access to Hwy 30 at S. Duff/Hwy 69.
  • No exit from Hwy 30 east bound to S. Dayton due to ongoing Iowa DOT reconstruction.
  • S. 16th Street (east of University Blvd): One lane each direction, tight conditions, expect delays.
  • Concerts also bring a lot of visitors who aren’t familiar with Ames traffic patterns. Combine that with construction and possible rain, and you should plan for extra travel time.

After the Concert:

  • No access to Hwy 30 from S. Dayton post-concert. (Same as football games. This prevents major backups and crashes.)
  • You may be routed in a direction that doesn’t feel right at first. Keep moving and follow traffic control.
  • Get away from the stadium, then work your way back home. In many cases, it may be faster to head north and west (Dakota, 13th, Ontario) before looping back.

Parking Enforcement:

  • Please obey all parking ordinances. This is especially important so emergency responders can get where they need to go. Don’t be the reason a fire truck can’t make it to a house fire or medics can’t get through to provide care.
  • Fines increase in event zones. You could receive a $75 ticket for illegal parking.

Pedestrian Safety:

  • No pedestrian access on S. 16th east of University
  • Best option: pedestrian bridge over University Blvd

Drivers:

  • Expect heavy foot traffic.
  • It may be dark and rainy. Visibility will be reduced
  • Drive sober. Slow down. Keep your eyes up.

 Highway 30 Traffic Restrictions:

  • No east bound access at S. Duff
  • No east bound exit at S. Dayton
  • No post-event east bound access from S. Dayton
  • East bouynd traffic routed north to E. 13th → I-35

Final Thought

  • Football crowds have practice with this. Concert crowds… maybe not as much.
  • Add in construction and weather, and it’s going to take a little patience from everyone.
  • Give yourself time, follow directions, watch out for each other, and enjoy the show.
