The City of Ames values communication and engagement with the community, and wants to create a space where people feel they can contribute to and belong. The position of Engagement Coordinator was created to help to build connections with the community to engage them in local government, and assisting internal staff with building relationships with residents when delivering City services and assists external partners by fostering collaborations that can help to improve the quality of life in Ames.

Some responsibilities of this position are:

Staff Liaison to the Ames Human Relations Commission

The purpose of the AHRC is connecting and supporting all communities in Ames by:
• providing opportunities for growth and engagement
• focusing on building trust, respect, and shared goals for the future
• bridging gaps, celebrating differences, and building unity
• championing equity and accessibility in our city through hosting, attending, and supporting local events.

Ames Human Relations Commission

ADA Coordinator

The City of Ames has an ADA Committee who is reviewing and updating the City's Transition Plan by walking through public buildings and documenting access issues and solutions.
The ADA Coordinator is available for community members to contact with any public accessibility questions or concerns.
ADA & Title VI Compliance Plans

LGBTQ+ Liaison

The Engagement Coordinator works with City officials to better support the LGBTQ+ community as well as working directly with the LGBTQ+ community in building relationships with the City.

 

Belonging & Inclusion Resolution

RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING THE CITY’S COMMITMENT TO THE VALUES OF EQUITY, FAIRNESS, INCLUSION, AND JUSTICE FOR THE CITY OF AMES

WHEREAS, the City of Ames believes in and stands for values of inclusion, equity, fairness, and justice; and,

WHEREAS, the City of Ames welcomes all people and recognizes the rights of individuals to live their lives with dignity, free of discrimination; and,

WHEREAS, the City of Ames will continue to work in making its services and programs accessible and open to all individuals; and,

WHEREAS, the City of Ames believes in the public sector for the public good, and advancing equity and inclusion is critical to the success of our communities and our nation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the City’s commitment to the values of equity, fairness, inclusion, and justice is hereby reaffirmed. ADOPTED THIS 11th day of February 2025.

Collaboration with the Ames Regional Economic Alliance
