AMES, Iowa – On Wednesday, July 22, RABGRAI riders traveling from Boone to Marshalltown will be cycling through Gilbert before going south toward Ames. The bicycle travel route will open at 6 a.m. and is expected to be back to normal traffic by 3 p.m.
The official route will bring riders south from Gilbert on Highway 69 to Riverside Road, east on Riverside Road to North Dayton Avenue, north on North Dayton Avenue to 190th Street/E29, and then east on 190th Street/E29 toward Nevada.
While Ames is not on the official RAGBRAI route, riders are anticipated to pass through the community, and traffic impacts are expected. Please use caution and be alert for bicyclists. Traffic control will primarily be handled by Story County, the Iowa Department of Transportation, and the Iowa State Patrol.
Residents should be aware that access to Ada Hayden Heritage Park will be disrupted throughout most of the day. Park users are encouraged to access the park through the Charles & June Calhoun Park (4320 Dawes Drive) entrance.
