AMES, Iowa – Starting on Friday, Feb. 21, City offices within City Hall, 515 Clark Ave., will begin relocating to other parts of the building to facilitate City Hall carpet replacement.

The Purchasing Division will relocate on Friday, Feb. 21. Employees will move to the second floor “Collaboration Annex” (previously the gymnastics room) while new carpet is being installed.

Starting on Monday, Feb. 24, two Utility Customer Service employees will work from the City Hall Lobby while other Utility Customer Service staff will be available in Conference Room 135 (across the hall from the current location). Customers looking to pay bills or ask questions about their accounts should follow the signs to the temporary location.

“After many years, City Hall will be undergoing an interior refresh including new carpeting and painting,” said Corey Mellies, Fleet and Facilities Director. “This will involve relocating several offices throughout the project, which is being broken into phases. This initial phase is expected to take four to six weeks. The entire project will wrap up this summer.”

To minimize confusion, signage will be placed throughout City Hall to guide customers to relocated services. Look for signs featuring “Flufferton,” the carpet replacement bunny mascot. By following Flufferton, customers should find and access City services in the temporary new locations.

In April, City Hall will celebrate its 35th year in the former Ames High School building, which was built in 1937. City Hall continues to be well-used and open many hours. The new carpet and fresh paint will enhance the space, creating a more welcoming environment for both staff and visitors.
