The Public Art Commission is excited to accept applications for the placement of art through the Neighborhood Sculpture Program. Through this program, the City purchases one or more sculptures each year for long-term display in the community.
This program supports the Commission's commitment to creating a visual and aesthetic environment that incorporates art into the lives of all Ames residents. The application deadline is November 15, 2026. Selected neighborhoods will be notified in early Spring 2027 pending City Council approval.

The available sculptures consist of pieces currently on display in the Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition in Downtown Ames. Residents of any Ames neighborhood who are interested in having one of these works placed in their neighborhood are encouraged to apply. The sculptures available for purchase can be viewed electronically through the City of Ames website or in-person in Downtown Ames.
The applicant must identify a proposed location in a public area that is open and can be accessed by the citizens of Ames. This includes areas such as neighborhood parks or cul-de-sacs. A location on private property, such as property owned by a homeowner’s association, may also be considered if it is open and accessible and the property owner grants the City a public art easement. Placement is also subject to a safety review by the City’s Traffic Engineer and Risk Manager.
