Neighborhood Sculpture Program

The Ames Public Art Commission is committed to creating a visual and aesthetic environment that incorporates art into the lives of all Ames citizens. One way that the Commission has done this is by developing the Neighborhood Sculpture Program.

The Neighborhood Sculpture Committee has proposed the selection and placement of pieces of art currently on display in the Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition in the Ames Main Street Cultural District. The Committee wishes to collaborate with any Ames neighborhood that might be interested in acquiring one of these works. The sculptures available for purchase can be viewed electronically through the City of Ames website or in person in Downtown Ames.

The must be displayed in a public area that is open and can be accessed by the citizens of Ames, such as a neighborhood park or cul-de-sac. Safety considerations for both drivers and pedestrians will be a deciding factor in placement of the piece. Approval from the Ames Traffic Engineer as well as the City Risk Manager will be required.

If your neighborhood is interested in acquiring one of these sculptures, please fill out the application form. Be sure to include where the sculpture might be placed, which sculpture your neighborhood is interested in, and other considerations of which you feel the Committee needs to be aware. The deadline for applications is December 15, 2024. Selected neighborhoods will be notified in early Spring 2025 pending City Council approval.
