AMES, Iowa – The Resource Recovery Plant is partnering with Iowa Home Consulting to host the annual Stash the Trash community spring cleanup from Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26.

Stash the Trash is a volunteer initiative to improve the appearance of the community and appropriately dispose of waste. Volunteers choose a neighborhood, park, or public space anywhere in Ames to clean. Collected trash can be brought to Iowa Home Consulting, 923 N. Fourth St., or can be scheduled for free pick-up. For trash pick-up requests and volunteer registration, go to www.StashtheTrash.com. While registration is not required, it is encouraged as it provides access to supplies, trash pick-up service, and allows the City to track participation and the total amount of waste collected across the community.

Council Connect & Trash Pick Up

Members of the Ames City Council will be cleaning Campustown from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, and welcome the public to join them. At noon, a group will meet at Campustown Court, at the corner of Welch Avenue and Chamberlain Street, to begin picking up trash until 2 p.m. A second group of Councilmembers will meet at the Ames Intermodal Facility, 129 Hayward Ave., at 2 p.m. for two more hours of garbage pickup.

Ada Hayden Park Cleanup Day

Other events held in connection with Stash the Trash include the Friends of Ada Hayden Park Cleanup Day from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 25. Volunteers should meet at the north parking lot shelter and bring gloves, loppers, or other cutting tools. The cleanup will focus on clearing brush near the bridge and picking up trash from the park. No chainsaws or other power equipment allowed.
