Map of Hyland Ave road closure

AMES, Iowa – Hyland Avenue, from Ontario Street to 1015 Hyland Ave., will close on Monday, May 19, for the first phase of a street reconstruction project. This phase is anticipated to take five to seven weeks, weather permitting. Those traveling in the area should use caution and allow extra travel time.

For motorists, the recommended detour is to access Grand Avenue from 13th Street or Lincoln Way. Sidewalks and bike lanes will be closed. Bicycle and pedestrian traffic should detour to North Dakota Avenue or consider other streets to avoid the construction.

The City of Ames has contracted with All Star Concrete for this project, which will be completed in four phases. The project will include pavement removal and replacement on Hyland Avenue from Ontario Street to Pammel Drive, and patching on select locations between Pammel Drive and Lincoln Way. Existing bike lanes on Hyland Avenue from Ontario Street to Oakland Street will be removed from the roadway and relocated to a new shared-use path along the west side of Hyland Avenue. The full project is anticipated to be completed by fall.
