Properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places include districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects that are significant in American history, architecture, archaeology, engineering, and culture at local, state, or national levels.

Properties are documented and evaluated according to uniform standards called the National Criteria for Evaluation. The criteria is used to identify important historic and archaeological properties worthy of preservation and consideration in making planning and development decisions.

If you are interested in nominating a property for the National Register of Historic Places, contact the Iowa State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).

Nominations can be submitted from property owners, historical societies, preservation organizations, governmental agencies, and other individuals or groups.

The above listing is current as of December 20, 2023.
