Smart
Energy is a suite of energy programs aimed at improving comfort,
reducin g bills, and contributing to the reliability of the electric
system. These programs keep electric rates low and improve our
environment. Programs focus on demand side energy management,
utility load management, development of alternative energy

Residential and Commercial Efficient Appliance Rebate
– As of July 1, Smart Energy now features rebates for
efficient appliances including refrigerators, washing

Prime Time Power – an air conditioner load
management program that lowers the demand for electricity. When the
demand for electricity is at its highest, radio-controlled switches
are used to cycle central air conditioners off for 7.5 minutes out
of every 30 minutes. You will receive a $5 credit on each of your
four summer electric bills (July, August, September, and
October) when you sign up for Prime Time Power!

Power Watch – an energy
conservation education and call to action program that helps keep
electric rates low. It focuses on communication and education to
help Ames become more energy smart.

Green Choices – an
alternative energy resource development program that helps reduce
our dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels, such as coal. It also
aids in the development of a diverse mix of energy resources for
Ames.

Efficiency Air Conditioner Rebate
– an incentive to the residential customer for properly sizing and
installing a high-efficiency air conditioner.

conditioner rebates require the installation of a Prime Time
Power switch. |

Residential Energy Audit – a basic energy
audit and a blower door test
to help identify areas needing improvement. The free audit
identifies how much energy homes consume and what homeowners can do
to make their homes more efficient.

Commercial Efficient Lighting – an
incentive to the commercial businesses that buy and install
efficient lighting. City of Ames Electric Services is partnering
with commercial and industrial customers in an effort to reduce
electrical consumption and electric bills, in addition to reducing
the need for electric production.
