Smart Energy Rebates are designed to help Ames Electric Services customers conserve energy and reduce their environmental impact. As advances are made in energy-saving technologies, our rebates are updated as well.

We have transitioned to a paper-free rebate system. Please submit your rebates online if you are able. If you have questions about the rebate portal, feel free to call us for a quick orientation to the system. If you are not able to submit your rebate online, you can give us a call to request a paper form in the mail. You can reach us at 515-239-5177.

Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate

Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate

 Rebate values:

  • Washing machine: $50
  • Electric dryer: $50
  • Refrigerator, 17.6 cubic ft. or larger: $50

Rebates are available for efficient appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, and electric dryers. Appliances must be EnergyStar® certified to qualify.

Efficient HVAC Rebates

An incentive to the residential customer for installing a high-efficiency air conditioner, ground-source heat pump, or air-source heat pump.

Air Source Heat Pump Rebate

  • 17.2 SEER2+ or for Energy Star Cold Climate certified models: $1,200
  • 15.2 to 17.1 SEER2: $600

(max $500 for mini-split units)

Geothermal Heat Pump Rebate

  • If unit is not EnergyStar®: $800/ton
  • EnergyStar® models: $1,000/ton
  • Equipment replacement (with no new wells): $400/ton

Central Air Conditioner Rebate

  • 17.2 SEER2+: $200

Smart Thermostat Rebate

  • $25 per thermostat, limit 1 per dwelling unit

Attic Insulation Rebate

Attic insulation reduces energy bills by holding cool air inside in the summer and warm air inside in the winter.

  • Up to $250 based on calculated metric.

Net Zero Ready New Home Rebate

Rebate Value: $3,000

Rebates for energy-efficient new residential construction. Call 515-239-5177 to learn more about the efficient construction rebate and request an application form. 

NOTE: Apartments do not qualify for this program. Rebates are for efficient, detached single-family dwellings only.


 

Additional Programs

Green Choices Program

The City of Ames Electric Services offers a voluntary monthly contribution program, which funds accelerated development of renewable energy resources. A voluntary contribution check-off is available to each customer via their monthly bill in the amounts of $2, $5, $10, or a designated amount, per month. Money will continue to be collected until the customer notifies the City of Ames Electric Services of their wish to stop the contribution, or the customer account is terminated.

Customers can also make a one-time donation for a minimum of $5.00.

Residential Energy Audit

A basic energy audit and a blower door test to help identify areas needing improvement. The free audit identifies how much energy homes consume and what homeowners can do to make their homes more efficient.

Weatherization and Energy Assistance

Weatherization and energy payment assistance are available through the Iowa Department of Human Rights. Weatherization services provided may include insulation; heating system tuning, repairs, or replacement; or installation of efficient lighting.
