AMES, Iowa – The City of Ames Water and Pollution Control Department recently received the “Art in the Workplace” award from the Ames Community Arts Council at the organization’s annual Arts Awards Celebration at Reiman Gardens.
The Ames Water Treatment Plant was nominated by Lee Anne Willson for the plant’s Public Art Contest and Exhibition, its annual curated art show centered on the theme of water, showcasing artwork across the community.
“We are incredibly honored to receive the Art in the Workplace award from the Ames Community Arts Council,” said Parul Baranwal, Assistant Director of Water and Pollution Control. “Our public art contest and exhibition is something we look forward to every year. Connecting with local artists and displaying their creative work is very rewarding.”
The public art program was originally developed as part of the Water Treatment Plant’s design to create a facility that reflects and complements the surrounding natural environment. The exhibition brings elements of the natural world indoors and helps create an engaging and welcoming space for employees and visitors.
The month-long exhibition provides local artists with the opportunity to showcase submissions at the Water Treatment Plant and the chance to win one of several cash prizes. Artwork selected through the program is also displayed in publicly accessible areas within the facility and other Water and Pollution Control buildings, helping connect the community with the department’s mission.
