Snow Ordinance in Effect at 8 p.m. on Thursday
Published on February 19, 2026
AMES, Iowa – Due to the amount of snow forecast in the area, the City of Ames Snow Ordinance will go into effect: 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026.
Important Reminders:
- Snow routes are marked with red and white signs.
- Vehicles must be moved to off-street parking or streets that are not designated snow routes.
- The more vehicles removed from streets, the faster and easier snow cleanup will be for crews.
- Crews may need to make multiple passes depending on the timing and intensity of the snowfall.
- The ordinance is expected to remain in effect until 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, but may vary depending on plowing conditions.
With more snow on the way, all Ames residents are encouraged to remove vehicles from residential streets – especially those parked in circles or cul-de-sacs. However, only vehicles on designated snow routes are required to be moved.
