Snow Ordinance in Effect at 11 p.m. Tonight
Published on March 06, 2025
AMES, Iowa – Due to the amount of snow forecast in the area, the City of Ames Snow Ordinance will go into effect today: 11 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
Important Reminders:
- Snow routes are marked with red and white signs.
- Vehicles must be moved to off-street parking or streets that are not designated snow routes.
- The ordinance is expected to remain in effect until 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, but may vary depending on plowing conditions.
- Snow is expected to fall most of the day on Friday, March 7. Crews will most likely be making multiple passes on streets until the snow stops falling.
With more snow on the way, all Ames residents are encouraged to remove vehicles from residential streets—especially those parked in circles or cul-de-sacs. However, only vehicles on designated snow routes are required to be moved.
Warmer Weather Expected Next Week
With warmer temperatures, the snow is expected to melt rapidly. Residents can help with refreeze and street ponding issues by making sure storm sewer intakes near their property remain clear of snow and slush.
