Public Works Department Seeks Community Input on Curbside Recycling

AMES, Iowa – The Public Works Department is seeking community input on a new approach to waste disposal, including a proposed residential curbside recycling program.
Ames residents are encouraged to share their thoughts through an online survey until Tuesday, Sept. 30. The survey is available at www.CityOfAmes.org/Resource-Recovery.
“Input from Ames residents is important to help shape our residential curbside recycling program,” said Justin Clausen, Director of Public Works. “We are excited for the future of recycling in Ames.”
A new Resource Recovery and Recycling Campus (R3C) is being developed to handle solid waste, recyclables, and yard waste. This change is necessary because the current waste-to-energy process will no longer be an option after 2027. The city will instead transition to a transfer station and landfilling operation. Recycling will play an important role in waste reduction.
