AMES, Iowa – The public is welcome to attend an open house for Ontario Park, 5658 Ontario St., from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.
This open house is an opportunity to explore the property and provide input on what could be included in the park. Off-street parking is available.
“We’re inviting our community members to give input on what Ontario Park could become,” said Parks and Recreation Director Keith Abraham. "This open house marks an exciting first step in transforming 50 acres of land into a vibrant space for our community."
In the fall of 2023, the City completed the purchase of 50 acres of property to be developed into a community park. The park is anticipated to be completed in phases. The first phase will include improvements on the north side of the park, including demolition of existing buildings, construction of a parking lot, installation of a bridge over Clear Creek, and an initial path from the parking lot to the bridge.
The Parks and Recreation Department manages more than 40 parks and offers approximately 180 athletic, aquatic, instructional, and wellness programs. For more information, go to the Parks and Recreation website at www.amesparkrec.org or call the Community Center at 515.239.5350.
