People watching a concert at Bandshell Park

The community is invited to enjoy a night of music at City Council Night at the Bandshell at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, at Bandshell Park, 125 E. Fifth St. This traditional summer event includes the opportunity to meet Ames City Councilmembers as they hand out free ice cream and Ames water. Additionally, Ames Animal Shelter staff and volunteers will have an informational table at the event to share information about the $1.5 million capital fundraising campaign to build a new Ames Animal Shelter.

The Ames Municipal Band concert, conducted by Michael Golemo, will begin at 8 p.m. The concert is free, and attendees are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs to the park. In the event of severe weather, City Council Night at the Bandshell will be rescheduled. Golemo is in his 23rd year as the director of the Ames Municipal Band. Golemo also serves as the Director of Bands at Iowa State University.

The Ames Municipal Band has 52 members who range from high school age to players in their 80s. The band rehearses each Tuesday night for their Thursday performances. The band will present family-friendly, hour-long concerts every Thursday at 8 p.m. in Bandshell Park in June and July. Each week the band will perform a different concert featuring popular music, light classical, hymns, marches and music from Broadway and films.
