Ames Joins Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Youth Climate Action Fund

AMES, Iowa – The City of Ames is offering grants of up to $5,000 to youth-led projects that support goals and strategies identified in the City of Ames Climate Action Plan. Participating groups must be 15 to 24 years old to be eligible to apply in partnership with an eligible sponsoring organization. Ames has joined Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF) to provide the funding. Ames is one of 300 cities joining YCAF.

As part of YCAF, Ames has launched this competition to award $50,000 in microgrants, alongside Bloomberg Philanthropies' technical expertise, to the strongest youth proposals. City staff will work closely with participants from concept to completion, supporting projects focused on public spaces, infrastructure, disaster mitigation, and community resilience.

“We are excited for this opportunity to give grant funding to the youth of Ames,” said Nolan Sagan, Sustainability Coordinator. “Partnering with Bloomberg Philanthropies allows us to give youth the resources to shape a more sustainable Ames.”

Young residents, youth-led groups, and youth-serving organizations are encouraged to learn more about eligibility requirements and submit an application at www.cityofames.org/sustainability. The deadline for applications is Friday, Oct. 16.

The City will host a “Co-Creation Session” on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m., at the Iowa State University Student Innovation Center, 606 Bissell Rd., in room 1118. At this event, participants will get tips for submitting strong grant applications and will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss ideas with city staff.
