Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report)

The Consumer Confidence Report (also known as Water Quality Report or CCR) is required by the U.S. EPA under the Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments of 1996. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources administers Iowa's Drinking Water Program, as delegated by the U.S. EPA.

More Information About Ames' Consumer Confidence Reports (CCR)

Beginning each January, Administration and Water Plant staff begin to compile information and decide on the layout of the report. Items such as project updates, conservation tips, and a letter from the Water & Pollution Control Director are often included.

Because Ames Water serves less than 100,000 people, the CCR is required to be posted on the Internet. A notice goes out in customers' bills with the URL link for the current CCR. Staff will also deliver copies of the report to non-bill-paying customer facilities or to anyone who requests a hard copy. These can include:

  • Apartment/rental home residents whose landlord pays the building's water usage
  • Students who reside in dorms, fraternities, and sororities
  • Students whose bill may be paid by family
  • Assisted-living, hospice, hospital, and nursing home residents

Consumer Confidence Reports must be mailed or delivered by July 1 of each year to Ames customers as well as a copy sent to Iowa DNR. A CCR Certification form must be submitted to Iowa DNR by October 1 each year, stating that the CCR has been distributed, posted, and the good-faith effort has been made to get the report to non-bill-paying customers.

If you have any questions about the Ames Consumer Confidence Report, or would like a hard copy, please contact the Water Plant staff at 515-239-5150.
