Wilder Boulevard Corridor
Project Description
The City of Ames is currently designing a Traffic Calming project for Wilder Boulevard. The proposed project will install mini-roundabouts along Wilder Boulevard between Mortensen Road and Lincoln Way. The anticipated intersections for mini-roundabouts include Clemens Boulevard, Thackery Drive, and Frost Drive.
Public Information Meeting
A public information meeting was held on April 16, 2026 to receive comments and discuss the Wilder Corridor Improvements. All feedback received to date, including comments shared at the public open house, as well as emails, letters, and other correspondence, will be compiled and provided to the Ames City Council for their review and consideration. We want to assure you that all input received is being taken seriously and will help inform the discussion on how to proceed.
Upcoming Opportunities for Input
City Council will receive an update about the project and provide direction to staff on next steps at their meeting on May 26 at 6:00 PM. There are several potential paths forward that Council may consider, including:
- Requesting additional public input through an online survey or feedback tool;
- Deferring the project to allow mini-roundabouts to be implemented and evaluated in other locations first;
- Directing staff to move forward with the project, or portions of the project; or
- Providing alternative direction as selected by City Council.
If you would like to provide additional input, you are welcome to:
- Attend the City Council meeting on May 26 at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers of Ames City Hall and speak during the public comment portion of the item; or
- Submit written comments to the City Clerk’s Office in advance of the meeting for inclusion in the Council packet.
Your continued input is important as we work to address concerns along Wilder Boulevard, including traffic operations and safety. Thank you again for your time, patience, and engagement throughout this process.
