Traffic improvement that includes completing a pedestrian bridge and shared-use path project along the south side of S. 4th Street from University Boulevard to Ioway Creek. Stage 1 of this project includes tree removal and shared-use path construction locations. Stage 2 includes the pedestrian bridge construction.
Project Update (4.15.26_
Earthwork for the new path is underway. Path work is anticipated to be completed by the end of April. Bridge work is anticipated to be completed by spring of 2027.

This program will result in improved visibility, reliability, and appearance of signals, as well as necessary upgrading of the traffic signal system.

Work is expected to begin in mid-April with very minor impacts to the public. Once signal poles are delivered more information will be posted on an overnight signal switchover.

This work involves installing fiber optic interconnect between the traffic signals and key City of Ames buildings. The project will also upgrade some traffic signal equipment at signalized intersections.
Project Update
Crews are nearing the end of installing conduit for this phase. Crews will then switch to installing fiber and making terminations. Impacts to the public should be minor for the rest of the project.

Work on the 2025/26 Shared Use Path Maintenance Contract No. 1 is anticipated to begin on Monday, April 20th. The work will include crack repairs, full depth patches, and full-width fogsealing of the asphalt paths in these areas. While work is occurring, portions of the paths in these areas will be closed and users will be asked to utilize other facilities. The work will move quickly so the closure locations will be highly dynamic during the project.

- Skunk River Trail north of Carr Park
- Path on the south side of Bloomington Rd (GW Carver to Stange)
- Skunk River Trail from Dawes Drive to the Calhoun Parking Lot
