The Ames Parks and Recreation Community Center is a full-service facility that includes the Ames City Auditorium, Multi-Purpose Room, Aerobics Room, Weight Room, Cardio Room, locker rooms, and the Community Center Gym.

We offer a variety of recreational activities, classes and programs, including Play Pals, SilverSneakers, badminton, pickleball, adult volleyball, dance, adult and youth basketball, and more than 50 fitness classes per week.

The Ames Parks and Recreation office is also located at the Community Center and is open during regular hours for league payments, registrations, dog tag sales and other Parks and Recreation business.

Activities

Adult Drop-in Badminton

Discover the fun and fitness benefits of this Olympic sport. Badminton is perfect for older adults who want to stay active, socialize and enjoy light competition. Games can be played as singles or doubles using a lightweight racquet and shuttlecock.

Held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

Fee: $2.75 per person

Adult Drop-in Pickleball

Pickleball is a fun racquet sport for all ages and abilities. Played with an oversized paddle and a perforated plastic ball, it’s typically held on badminton courts. The rules resemble tennis, while scoring is similar to badminton. Games are played to 11, 15 or 21 points in singles or doubles.

Fee: $2.75 per person

Adult Drop-in Volleyball

Drop in and play volleyball at the Community Center Gym. This activity is not held when leagues are in session.

Fee: $2.75 per person

Drop-in Basketball

If just shooting around is your thing, this is the place to be.

Fees:

  • $2.50 for youth
  • $2.75 for adults (ages 17 and up)

Play Pals

Play Pals Indoor Playground is sure to excite the little ones! Fully equipped with toys of all kinds, it's a great opportunity for kids to make new friends and practice sharing. Our slide, teeter-totter, cycles, wagons and other toys will keep children entertained for hours.

Held in the Community Center Gymnasium, Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m., between Labor Day and Memorial Day.

Fees:

  • $2.50 per child per visit
  • Babies in carriers are free
    Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
