Residency Requirements

Within on year of the date of hire, new firefighters must have permanent residence within the boundaries set forth in the residency requirements.

The following information is taken from the Agreement between the City of Ames and the Ames Association of Professional Firefighters Local 625 of the International Association of Firefighters, and is subject to change:

“All employees covered by this contract shall reside within an area bordered by County Road S-27 on the east, Story County and Boone County line on the north and south, and State Highway 17 on the west. Communities intersected by the borderlines shall be considered within the area.”

Communities that are intersected by the borderline (i.e., Madrid, Luther, Maxwell, Fernald, McCallsburg, Iowa Center and Sheldahl) may be considered within the area.
