2020-21 AAOSE Sculptures on Display

In the 24th annual Downtown exhibition, the Public Art Commission featured artists Kimber Fiebiger, Hilde DeBruyne, Jacob McGinn, Timothy Jorgensen, Tim Adams, Steve Reddell, Hanna Seggerman, and James Bearden. Artist Steve Reddell was the recipient of the Best in Show award as chosen by the public. About his sculpture he shared that he uses "a very utilitarian craft paired with functional items to create pedestrian scale art pieces. Where others see a hubcap, I see a turtle; a rusty pipe wrench becomes a grasshopper. In my world, motorcycle tanks are birds, old farm implements become flowers and an empty air conditioning refrigerant tank is a person’s head. The juxtaposition of easily recognizable, mundane objects transformed to other known yet still foreign forms creates the simultaneous moment of tension and delight in a viewer. That split second where the everyday is released and the whimsical is embraced is the essence of why I create.”
