"Sip and Stroll" Social District Events

The Ames City Council has designated a "Sip and Stroll" area in Downtown Ames for Social District Events. During an authorized Social District Event, businesses that hold a retail alcohol license and have been approved by the City Council to be part of the Social District may dispense alcohol into a special marked container that has been approved by the City Council. This container could then be carried and consumed outdoors, on streets, sidewalks, and in other public spaces within the social district. The alcohol may be taken into other alcohol-licensed, participating businesses that consent to it, but not into non-licensed premises.

Please note a separate Special Event Application may be necessary if the Social District is activated in conjunction with street or parking lot closures.

Please complete the application and submit it to the City Clerk’s Office at least 30 days prior to the proposed event. All information must be provided before the application can be reviewed and approved by City Council.
