Naming opportunities as of August 2025:

  • Surgical Equipment
    • Each year approximately 550 animals are adopted from the Ames Animal Shelter. Nearly 70% of these animals require a spay or neuter surgery. This equipment will also be used for other minor surgeries and dental work.
  • Surgery Room
    • A partnership with Iowa State University Veterinary College will be expanded to allow qualified veterinary students perform spays and neuters of cats and dogs at the shelter. Currently, these surgeries are done at local vet clinics. This partnership will save the shelter approximately $150,000 annually in operational expenses.
  • Food Pantry Room
    • Every week, individuals from the community come to the shelter in need of food to feed their pets. The food pantry will provide free animal food to these households. This is a win-win because their pet receives critical nourishment, and they are more likely to stay in their home versus being surrendered to the shelter. The Ames Animal Shelter has a long-standing partnership with local pet stores that donate more food than current space can accommodate.
  • Laundry Room
    • An industrial grade washer and dryer will be purchased. These will accommodate the large quantity of animal bedding, towels, and other material that must be washed and dried daily at the shelter.
  • Furniture within the Meet & Greet Rooms
    • Meet & greet rooms are multi-functional spaces mainly serving families and individuals as they interact and play with dogs and cats in anticipation of adopting them into their forever home.
      • Three Dog Rooms (one room remains available)
      • Four Cat Rooms (four rooms remain available)
  • Dog Suite Rooms (one of three rooms remain available)
    • Depending on the dog's size, each of the three rooms will accommodate up to four dogs so they can roam free and not be kenneled while at the shelter. These rooms provide larger breeds with adequate space and can also allow for bonded pairs to remain living together.
  • Dog Kennel Rooms
    • Rooms for dogs to be kenneled while waiting for adoption.
  • Kitty City Rooms
    • Room to accommodate up to six cats so they can play spontaneously without being in a cage at the shelter.
  • Cat Suites
    • Room to accommodate up to three cats to they can play spontaneously without being in a cage at the shelter.
  • Cat Kennel Rooms
    • Rooms for cats to be kenneled while waiting for adoption.
  • Pocket Pets - Adoption Room
    • Room for guinea pigs, rabbits, and hamsters to be kenneled while waiting for adoption.
  • Landscape Groupings
    • Due to the proximity of Dayton Road to the east of the new shelter, multiple groupings of pine trees are needed. They will serve as a sound barrier and enhance the overall appearance of the site.
