Jubilee
In the cold of December, Animal Control Officers responded to phone call detailing an Ames apartment full of sick cats. The odor of neglect, the caller noted, was overwhelming. When the officers arrived, they were devastated by the site: 27 cats living in squalor and surrounded by filth. The animals were sick, injured, and desperate.
Little Jubilee was one of the most vulnerable. She ran to officers with tiny meows and purrs. The little kitten attempted to climb the legs of her rescuers as she sought help. Her injuries were significant. In addition to a severe respiratory infection, Jubilee was fighting an agonizing and uncontrolled eye infection. The veterinarians who examined her agreed that removing the eye was the only option to relieve the animal’s pain and give her a chance to heal.
Despite the cruelty she had endured, Jubilee’s spirit was unbroken. Shelter staff and volunteers began the lengthy process of helping the kitten heal from physical and mental trauma. It wasn’t easy. Jubilee needed months of treatment to recover from infections that ravaged her small frame. She fought for recovery every step of the way.
After months of care and love, Jubilee was finally healthy and ready to move on. Her adoption marked a new chapter - one filled with warmth, love, and kindness. Jubilee is thriving in her forever home, which serves as a reminder that even the darkest beginnings can lead to the brightest futures.
Jubilee's story demonstrates the critical need for live-saving work in our community. With your help, a new and expanded shelter will support the needs of more animals!
