The City of Ames Public Works department has partnered with Prairie Rives of Iowa, Story County Conservation, and the Outdoor Alliance of Story County to host this event every spring around Earth Day.
The event partners provide canoes and lifejackets, buckets, bags, and grabbers. If volunteering, you should bring a reusable water bottle and work gloves if you have them. There will be extras. There is some trash to be found on sandbars, but the deeper you can wade into the water, the more helpful you will be. Wear closed-toed footwear that can get wet—no flip flops! Old tennis shoes or water shoes work better than rubber boots.
