Spring No-Charge Yard Waste Day Set for April 26
Published on April 02, 2025
AMES, Iowa – Story County residents can dispose of yard waste at no charge during the Spring No-Charge Yard Waste Day planned for Saturday, April 26, at GreenRU, 400 Freel Drive. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This yard waste drop-off day will include both yard waste and brush up to 3-inches in diameter.
Those participating in No-Charge Yard Waste Day are asked to enter the site from Dayton Avenue, then west on Southeast Fifth Street, and north on Freel Drive. Drivers should exit the site north on Freel Drive to Lincoln Way. Please follow GreenRU's rules for proper yard waste disposal. For additional information or questions, call GreenRU at 515.450.0450 and leave a message.
Yard waste is not accepted at Resource Recovery. The RRP receives garbage from Ames and the surrounding communities in Story County for processing. Metals are extracted and sold for recycling. The remainder is shredded by machines, and the burnable portion becomes Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). RDF is piped to the City's power plant and used with natural gas to generate electricity.
