The Ames Conference Board is seeking a volunteer to fill a vacancy on the Ames Board of Review. While any Ames resident is welcome to apply, the most successful candidates often have expertise in local real estate, architecture, or building trades. Board of Review members are appointed by the Ames Conference Board.

The Ames Board of Review is an independent board that ensures property assessments are fair, equitable, and reflect actual market value or residential, commercial, and industrial property. The Board acts on property assessment protests by holding hearings and deciding formal petitions filed by property owners who disagree with the assessor’s estimate of value.

Additionally, the Board of Review has the authority to raise or lower individual assessments to ensure consistency and equity across similar properties.

“The Board of Review work is incredibly important to ensure a system where property tax assessments are established following professional best practices, and property owners have a process to address concerns,” said Ames City Assessor Shari Plagge.

The Board of Review holds regular meetings May 1 through May 31 to review written protests filed April 2 to April 30. More information and an application for the Board of Review is available at www.CityOfAmes.org/BoardsAndCommissions.
