Transmission Line Replacement Map

Ames Electric Services has contracted with Watts Electric Co. to rebuild the overhead electric poles and lines along the north side of Top-O-Hollow Road and the east side of Grand Avenue. The rebuilding continues through North and East River Valley parks and south to the Ames Plant Substation, near the Ames Power Plant, 200 E. Fifth St.

The poles and lines are being replaced because they are approaching the end of their expected lifespan. Work is scheduled to start in November.

Staff from Ames Electric and the Parks and Recreation Department are hosting a meeting to explain the project, including the location of the lines, the project duration, and anticipated local impact. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Homewood Golf Course Clubhouse, 401 E. 20th St.

Those who have questions but are unable to attend the meeting should contact Electric Engineer Mark Imhoff, Ames Electric Services, at mark.imhoff@cityofames.org or 515.239.5175, or Parks and Recreation Director Keith Abraham at keith.abraham@cityofames.org or 515.239.5349.
