KHOI, ISU, City Host Earth Day Appreciation 2026

AMES, Iowa – Through a partnership between the City of Ames, ISU Office of Sustainability, and KHOI Community Radio, the seventh “Earth Day on the Airwaves” event will be broadcast from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18. The event will include live call-ins as well as updates on topics including the annual Stream Clean-up, Stash the Trash, the new Resource Recovery and Recycling Center, and the new residential curbside recycling program. Iowa State University sustainability initiatives will be highlighted along with interviews featuring City of Ames departments and Iowa State University student, faculty, and staff.

Listeners should tune into KHOI-FM Community Radio at 89.1 or stream at www.KHOIFM.org to hear about sustainability efforts throughout the community.

“Earth Day on the Airwaves” radio special will feature City of Ames and Office of Sustainability staff co-hosting with KHOI Community Radio volunteers.

“I look forward to Earth Day and Earth Month every April as an opportunity to reassess my individual efforts of supporting community sustainability goals,” said ISU Director of Sustainability Merry Rankin. “But I also look forward to learning about community-wide initiatives to conserve our natural resources, reduce our waste streams, and get involved in my community whenever possible.”
