AMES, Iowa – Hyland Avenue, from 1015 Hyland Ave. to the south side of Pammel Drive, will be reduced to a single lane with alternating traffic beginning Monday, April 20, weather permitting. This is anticipated to take six to seven weeks. A temporary traffic signal will be used to control alternating northbound and southbound traffic in the southbound lane.

Pammel Drive will be closed to traffic from Hyland Avenue. The existing sidewalk and new section of the shared-use path will remain open. Motorists should consider alternate routes if possible. The shared-use path is not completed through the work zone. To use Hyland Avenue, cyclists would need to use a combination of path, sidewalk and/or the street lane through the work zone. For that reason, cyclists should consider detouring via South Dakota Avenue.

The City of Ames has contracted with All Star Concrete for the reconstruction of Hyland Avenue. The project includes pavement removal and replacement on Hyland Avenue from Ontario Street to Pammel Drive, and patching on select locations between Pammel Drive and Lincoln Way. Existing bike lanes on Hyland Avenue from Ontario Street to Oakland Street will be removed from the roadway and relocated to a new shared-use path along the west side of Hyland Avenue.
