AMES, Iowa – Due to the unseasonably cool temperatures, Furman Aquatic Center, 1635 13th St., will not be open this weekend as planned. Ames Parks and Recreation staff will continue to monitor the weather, and it is anticipated the facility will open on Wednesday, May 28.
“Obviously, we are disappointed by the delay, but excited to open as soon as possible,” said Courtney Kort, Recreation Superintendent. “Furman is an amazing outdoor aquatic center with activities for all ages. We are looking forward to a fantastic season.”
The Furman Aquatic Center includes a 550-foot lazy river with a waterfall and two water slides both over 200 feet long. A 50-meter pool features a 150-foot drop slide, basketball hoops, 3-meter platform, and a 1-meter springboard. A 5,000-square-foot recreational pool for children includes zero-depth entry, spray features, a large play structure, a children's slide, and a toddler slide.
