Furman Aquatic Center Opening Delayed Again
Published on May 27, 2025
AMES, Iowa – Due to the unseasonably cool temperatures, Furman Aquatic Center, 1635 13th St., will further delay its opening. Ames Parks and Recreation staff will continue to monitor the weather, and it is anticipated the facility will open on Friday, May 30.
“It’s disappointing to further delay the opening of Furman Aquatic Center, especially with all the excitement building,” said Courtney Kort, Recreation Superintendent. “We are eager to open as soon as conditions allow.”
The Furman Aquatic Center includes a 550-foot lazy river with a waterfall and two water slides both over 200 feet long. A 50-meter pool features a 150-foot drop slide, basketball hoops, 3-meter platform, and a 1-meter springboard. A 5,000-square-foot recreational pool for children includes zero-depth entry, spray features, a large play structure, a children's slide, and a toddler slide.
