Clausen Named Public Works Director

AMES, Iowa – Interim Public Works Director Justin Clausen has been named Public Works Director for the City of Ames effective July 1.
“During his time with the City, Justin has demonstrated the technical skills required of the position as well as a commitment to our organizational goal of providing exceptional customer service,” said City Manager Steve Schainker. “I am delighted to offer Justin the director position, and I am confident he will continue the success of the Public Works Department.”
Clausen joined the City of Ames in 2011 as Public Works Construction Supervisor. He became the Public Works Operations Manager in 2014, overseeing street maintenance, storm sewer, snow and ice control, sanitary sewer collection, and water distribution. Clausen has a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering from Iowa State University. He is a licensed professional engineer and a Certified Public Works Professional - Manager. Clausen has 10 years of experience in private industry constructing roads and bridges.
Clausen was selected after a national candidate search and a two-day interview process that included a public presentation. He replaces former City of Ames Public Works Director John Joiner who retired earlier this year after more than 31 years of service.
The Public Works Director oversees five divisions within the department including Administration, Engineering, Operations, Resource Recovery System, and Traffic.
