City Offices Closed for Memorial Day on May 26

AMES, Iowa – City Hall, most City departments and divisions, the Community Center Gym, Ames/ISU Ice Arena, and Ames Public Library will be closed Monday, May 26, in recognition of Memorial Day. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, May 27.
Furman Aquatic Center will be open on Monday, May 26, weather permitting. For information on pool hours, visit Furman Aquatic Center Facebook page or www.amesparkec.org.
CyRide will not operate on Monday, May 26, and will return to its summer schedule on Tuesday, May 27. For more schedule information, go to www.cyride.com.
The Resource Recovery Plant, 110 Center Ave., will be closed Monday, May 26.
The Ames Patriotic Council will sponsor a Memorial Day parade beginning at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, May 26. The parade will start at City Hall, 515 Clark Ave. Anyone, especially any veteran, wishing to walk or ride in the parade is welcome. Parade participants should begin gathering at 9:45 a.m. in the parking lot on the west side of City Hall. The parade will proceed north along Clark Avenue and then east along Ninth Street to the Ames Municipal Cemetery, 310 E. Ninth St.
A Memorial Day program will be held at 11 a.m. at the cemetery. The event will be in person but also viewable at www.facebook.com/AmesPatrioticCouncil/events and www.AmesPatrioticCouncil.org. In case of rain, the parade will be cancelled, and the program will move indoors to the City Hall Auditorium at 11 a.m.
Retired Brigadier General Craig Bargfrede will be the featured speaker. Bargfrede served for nearly 34 years in the Minnesota and Iowa Army National Guard, including active duty in Afghanistan. The program will also include representatives of the City of Ames and American Legion Post No. 37. Afterwards, American Legion Post No. 37 will provide lunch at the post, 225 Main St.
