City Hall Offices Carpeting Project Continues

AMES, Iowa – The carpet replacement project at City Hall, 515 Clark Ave., is moving more quickly than anticipated, and new City offices will be relocating to other parts of the building beginning on Tuesday, March 11.
Some Finance Department staff will relocate to Conference Room 135, on the first floor of City Hall, and Human Resources will move to the second floor “Collaboration Annex” (previously the gymnastics room) while new carpet is being installed.
Utility Customer Service and Purchasing will return to their original locations on the first floor. Customers looking for Human Resources or Finance should follow signs to the temporary locations. To minimize confusion, signs featuring “Flufferton,” the carpet replacement bunny mascot, will help customers looking for relocated services.
“We’ve been pleasantly surprised by how quickly the first round of carpet replacement and painting at City Hall has gone,” said Corey Mellies, Fleet and Facilities Director. “We still have many more phases to complete, and we believe the entire project will wrap up this summer.”
In April, City Hall will celebrate its 35th year in the former Ames High School building, which was built in 1937. City Hall continues to be well-used and open many hours. The new carpet and fresh paint will enhance the space, creating a more welcoming environment for both staff and visitors.
