Arts Commission Offers Additional Grant Funding
Published on January 07, 2026
The City of Ames’ Commission on the Arts (COTA) is providing an additional round of special project grant funding for non-profit arts organizations. In addition to the regular schedule of spring and fall grants, the summer 2026 Special Project Grants will fund projects that take place from April 1 to Oct. 31. Projects should benefit the Ames community and further the arts in Ames.
“This special funding provides up to $2,500 for new projects separate from those considered or funded in COTA’s annual grant process,” said Assistant City Manager Brian Phillips, COTA staff liaison. “The Commission is seeking new initiatives from Ames non-profit arts organizations focused on advancing arts awareness.”
Past recipients of COTA grants have included projects such as theater and dance performances, concerts, and interactive art programs. The instructions and application can be found at www.CityOfAmes.org/COTA. Application deadline is Monday, Jan. 26.
Hearings will be held at the COTA meeting on Monday, Feb. 2, and recommendations will be finalized at the COTA meeting on Monday, March 2.
COTA is a volunteer board of Ames residents appointed by Mayor John Haila. The Commission is charged with setting goals and criteria for arts expenditures for City Council approval, and with preparing and submitting a recommended plan for distribution of arts funding. COTA generally meets on the first Monday of each month at 5 p.m.
