Street System Maintenance
Repair and Maintenance of over 525 lane-miles of streets (Does not include street within Iowa State’s main campus). Activities include routine crack sealing, minor alley and gravel street maintenance, pothole patching, and minor surface repairs.
Street Surface Cleaning
Regular cleaning and sweeping of the street network. This activity also includes leaf pick up from streets in the fall. Only leaves that naturally fall into the street will be picked up. It is illegal to place leaves into the street or right of way from private property.
Bridge and Culverts
Responsible for maintenance and inspection of 17 bridges and 16 culverts. Bridges on the National Bridge Inventory are inspected every 2 years. Culverts are inspected every 4 years.
Curb and Gutter Replacement Policy
Deteriorated curb and gutter sections along the public right-of-way due to improper driveway construction, freeze-thawing, or poor concrete quality may be eligible for the curb replacement program. This program requires a 50 percent shared cost for the property owner with the City paying the remaining 50 percent. When requested, curb and gutter sections may be reviewed by Operations staff to determine if the section qualifies for the program. Approval must be given prior to any work taking place.
