The City of Ames’ goals for the Community Gardens are to provide participants with the opportunity to have a positive gardening experience and all plots are used in a legal and appropriate manner.
Acceptable Usage of Plot
Production of food, flowers, herbs and other legal plants for personal use only.
Production of any item for commercial use is not allowed.
Plots are not to be used to store materials/tools not associated with gardening.
Returning Gardeners are guaranteed a spot if Application and Agreement form with payment is received by the deadline set each year. If an individual has gardened, and paid for more than one plot last year, that gardener will be allowed to retain their second plot as well
New Gardeners will be assigned the remaining plots on a first come first serve basis.
This park is located at the south end of South Maple Street is the main community garden area in the park system containing 63 garden plots that are 10’ X 25’ or 10’ X 40’ in size. There are three water hydrants available and space is provided for garden debris and composting. Gardeners pay a fee each year for the space and most gardeners use the same garden plot year after year.
