ADULT SUMMER SOFTBALL PROGRAM

Parks and Recreation offers two seasons of adult softball—summer and fall. Summer 2025 teams may register now. Registrations are due Sunday, April, 6, 2025. Fall season team registration will begin at the end of July and end early August. 

Welcome to the 2025 City of Ames Parks and Recreation Adult Softball Program! Below you will find registration information for the upcoming season. Please read all the league information below before you register! 12" Men's Leagues Available C2 (TH);  C3 (TU);  C4 (W)

Approximate Dates:   April 22 - July 17  

Approximate number of games: 20

Approximate cost per game $34

 

Co-Ed Leagues Available C1/C2 (F);  C1/C2 (SU);  C3/C4 (SU)

Approximate Dates: April 25 - July 13

Approximate number of games: 16 

Approximate cost per game $33.50

NOTES: Games scheduled 6:00-10:00 PM (M-F) and 1:00-8:00 PM (Sun) at North/South River Valley Parks. Estimated cost per player for a 20-game season (15 players on a team) including $39/team USA Softball fee is $2.53 per game. The tournament fee is $40. Plus non-resident fees apply as described below. 

  1. Past performance in leagues may be considered when making final league assignments.

  2. Based on team numbers and the quality of teams/leagues, we reserve the right to adjust or split leagues.

 

TEAM AND PLAYER ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. All players must be 17 years of age.

  2. Players may play on more than one men's or women's team if under the following rules:

  3. a) A player may play on only one team in their league.
    b) A man playing on a Men's C League team may play at any Co-Ed level.

  4. Priority in placement will be given to "resident" teams (50% of members living in the City of Ames).

 

MEN'S LEAGUE SERVICES AND FEES:

The Men's league season will begin with each team having the option to play one pre-season game. The managers' meeting will determine total league fees and the number of games each division plays. League fees include field maintenance, one umpire, game balls, league, tournament awards, and administration. USA softball registration ($37/team) and non-resident fees ($15/non-resident player) are to be paid in addition to league fees. Also, a $40 tournament fee will be added for each league deciding to have an end-of-season tournament. The following prices (includes sales tax) show the breakdown of per-game costs for Men's Leagues.

FRIDAY AND SUNDAY CO-ED "C" LEAGUE FEES AND SERVICES:

League fees include minimal field maintenance (dragged w/no base lines), one umpire, and game balls. Each league will determine total league fees ($33.50/game) at the managers' meeting. USA Softball registration ($39/team) and a non-resident fee ($15/non-resident player) are to be paid in addition to the league fees. Also, a $40 tournament fee will be added for each league deciding to have an end-of-season tournament. This league does not offer pre-season games. The following information is listed to determine which Co-Ed C League is best suited for your team.

C1 League – This is for the competitive C-level teams. If you are a C-level team and have any B-level men's players on your team, you must play in this league.
C2 League – This league will have a mix of semi-competitive and recreational teams.
C3 & C4 League –  Fun is the emphasis in this league. Staff may combine these leagues into one division based on the number of teams registered.

NON-RESIDENT FEES:

The Ames Parks and Recreation Commission and City Council established a $15.00 non-resident fee for all adult athletic league participants who reside outside the Ames City limits. This fair share fee is for non-residents who do not pay City property taxes; yet utilize City facilities and programs. When league fees are submitted, this $15.00 fee shall be paid for each softball season (summer and fall) that a non-resident player participates.

Staff will email team managers their final league fee after the manager's meeting. All final league fees are due Wednesday, April 16. League fees need to be paid in full before the season starts, or your team won't be allowed to participate.

*Rosters must include the complete mailing address for all players. Teams will not be registered if the roster is incomplete.

All bats used will get a City of Ames 2025 Sticker at their first game. Any bat used MUST BE on the APPROVED list and NOT on the NON-APPROVED list. To check the lists, click on the link below:
