Regular Meetings of the Ames City Council are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue. Special Meetings and Joint Meetings of the Ames City Council are called on an as needed basis by Mayor John Haila, with workshops typically held on the third Tuesday.
Meetings and workshops of the City Council are recorded for public viewing. There are multiple options to participate in meetings held by the City Council but residents who are unable to participate in the meeting at the time it occurs are encouraged to submit their comments in advance. The Mayor and City Council welcome the public to attend meetings and provide comments during discussion. Meetings are held on the second floor of City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue. Free parking is available after 5:00 p.m. in Lot M to the west of City Hall. The building is wheelchair accessible and equipped with a hearing assistance system. To request specific accommodations like sign language interpretation, please contact the City Clerk's Office at least 24 hours before the meeting at 515-239-5105 or cityclerkoffice@cityofames.org.
The Standards of Decorum, posted at the door and included below, define respectful conduct for public participation. If you wish to speak at a meeting, please fill out the form on the tablet outside the door to the Council Chambers or scan the QR Code on the Agenda to fill out the same form on a personal device. When your name is called, please come forward to the microphone, state your name for the record, and keep your comments brief so that others may have the opportunity to speak.
