EcoFair speakers on KHOI-FM. Although the City of Ames annual EcoFair has been cancelled for April 25, many speakers who had planned to present at the EcoFair will be available by tuning into KHOI-FM, 89.1 or via streaming at www.KHOIFM.org from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. EcoFair Scavenger Hunt. Another virtual opportunity to enjoy the EcoFair and celebrate Earth Day is the Eco Scavenger Hunt from April 18 - 25. Teams of 1 to 4 members can participate in a mostly virtual scavenger hunt around Ames and win prizes. Learn about green initiatives in Ames, earn prizes, and do something fun! The EcoFair is an outreach event with the goal of connecting citizens with City staff and experts who provide resources focused on energy, water, land, and resources. Additionally, citizens can learn about environmentally minded projects and groups, and how to support a  more sustainable future. 


Upcoming Events

EcoChats will be held at the Ames Public Library and begin at 6:30 p.m. with a vendor and community organization open house. At 7 p.m., local experts and City staff will present high-energy, short lectures touching on four separate topics. After each session, participants can talk to presenters, as well as browse the open house and enjoy refreshments.

Topics will include: Its Easy to Install Solar!, Geothermal? In My Yard?, New City Rebates for Electric Transportation,
DIY Home Energy Audits

2.) Wednesday, February 26, 2020- WATER
Topics will include: Conserving Water One Drop at a Time, Flint Michigan: Could it Happen in Ames?, How to Create a Healthy & Sustainable Lawn, Agricultural Watershed Conservation Practices

3.) Monday, March 30, 2020- REDUCE, REUSE, & RECYCLE
Topics will include: Composting Pilot Program Updates, Apartment & Backyard Composting, Zero Waste Lifestyle, How Do I Dispose of This?

Participation in the EcoFair is free to vendors and groups wishing to promote sustainability products and services. In lieu of a fee, vendors are encourages to bring a door prize. Drawings for door prizes will be conducted during the event by City staff.
