City Hall and all other City facilities are closed to the public as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19. The closures will be effective after 5 p.m. Thursday, March 19, and will continue through May 15, 2020. City staff will continue to report to their offices and serve the public. Residents are encouraged to conduct City business online or by contacting individual City departments directly. Residents who are unsure how to conduct their City business may contact the City’s customer service hotline from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 515.239.5670.

Spring 2020 No Charge Yard Waste Day


The spring No Charge Yard Waste Day will be held Saturday, May 2, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at GreenRU (formerly Chamness Technology), at 400 Freel Drive in east Ames.  Residents may dispose of yard waste (including brush) at no charge during this event.  Commercial customers will not receive free service these days, but may still pay to use the site.

Those participating in No Charge Yard Waste Days are asked to enter the site from Dayton Road west onto SE 5th Street, north on Freel Drive to the site, and exit to the north on Freel Drive to Lincoln Way. Participants should follow GreenRU's rules for proper yard waste disposal. For additional information or questions, call GreenRU at 515-450-0450 and leave a message.

Yard waste is not accepted at the Resource Recovery Plant (RRP).

Sometimes that brush day is just not going to work out for you, or the weather does not cooperate; the voucher will be available for Saturday, May 9 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  You can get your voucher prior to Friday, May 1, at the Resource Recovery Plant offices (upstairs) or at the Community Center in City Hall.
