Wellmark 3 Point Play

Like you, Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield understands the value of exercise and recreation for good
health. They also realize community budgets for parks and recreation activities may be limited. That’s why
they  wanted to support Ames Parks and Recreation through an innovative partnership with Iowa State
University Athletics.

What is the 3-Point Play?
Wellmark makes a financial contribution to Ames Parks and Recreation  for each successful football
field goal ($500 each) and each three-pointer by the men’s and women’s basketball teams ($30 each). This includes both home and away games and post-season play.

Why is Wellmark doing this?
Wellmark is committed to improving the health of not only the members in which they provide services, but
to the communities in the two states where they do business – Iowa and South Dakota. The 3-Point Play
initiative allows Wellmark to financially support both the Division I universities and the communities where
these schools are located.

As part of this program, Wellmark will also promote their own 3-Point Play, encouraging fans to “Eat Right,
Move More, and Feel Better.” These messages are also being promoted on Wellmark’s 3-Point Play
website, in video board features at football stadiums and basketball arenas, in public service
announcements, live radio reads, and more.

Wellmark is committing a financial contribution to a non-profit in each community that focuses on health
and wellness. The logical recipient of the funding is the community’s Parks and Recreation Department.
You know your community and your community’s recreation needs.

For the 2010-2011 season Parks and Recreation received $18,750.00!  With this  level of funding the city purchased 4 pieces of cardiovascular equipment for the downtown Community Center.   Click Here  to view this new equipment.

For the 2011-2012 season Parks and Recreation received $21,330.00!   With this level of funding the City has purchased 6 pieces of new equipment for the downtown Community Center.

The City of Ames appreciates Wellmark investing in the health and well-being of our residents!  Go Cyclones!
We are looking forward to another exceptional season in both football and basketball!
