Pre-Conversion and Pre-Sale Inspections
If you are planning to convert a single family home into a rental property or are considering the purchase of a rental property, please complete the on-line Rental Housing Registration form or contact the Inspection Division by phone at 515-239-5153 or by e-mail at to request a pre-conversion or pre-sale inspection before offering the home for rent. You may request a copy of prior inspection reports if the property has been or is currently being offered for rent. If you decide NOT to register the property as a rental then a fee of $54.47 will be assessed, otherwise there is no charge for this inspection.

Regular Periodic Inspections
Registered rental properties are placed on a schedule of periodic inspections. The inspection cycle is one, two, three or four years depending upon the type of dwelling, the nature of needed corrections and the general level of maintenance provided.
