        Karen Tapper

 

Commander Karen Tapper has been with the Ames Fire Department since 1999, promoted to the position of Lieutenant in 2006, and then to Shift Commander in 2016. Commander Tapper received her Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design from Iowa State University.

 

She is also certified by the State of Iowa as a Firefighter I and II, Fire Officer I and II, Fire Instructor I and II, Driver/Operator: Pumper, Emergency Medical Responder, and Hazardous Materials Technician.



 

          Doug Allen 

 Commnader Doug Allen

Commander Doug Allen has been with the Ames Fire Department since 1999. He has held the position of Shift Commander since 2006. Before coming to the Ames Fire Department, Doug was Fire Chief of the Huxley (IA) Fire Department for six years.

Commander Allen received his Associate's Degree in Farm Operations from Iowa State University and has a Fire Specialist Certificate from Des Moines Area Community College. He is also certified by the State of Iowa as a Firefighter II, Instructor II, Fire Officer II, Driver Operator/Pumper, and Driver Operator/Aerial.

Commander Allen is a member of the Iowa Critical Incident Response Team and is very involved in Fire Prevention, Auto Extrication and Driver Operator training for the fire department. Doug recently retired as a part-time Certification Specialist for the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau. In his off-duty time he enjoys camping, fishing, hiking and spending time with his family.

Commander Tom Hackett
has been with the Ames Fire Department since 2000, promoted to the position of Lieutenant in 2007, and then to Shift Commander in 2013. Commander Hackett received his Associate's Degree in Fire Science from Des Moines Area Community College.

 

He is also certified by the State of Iowa as a Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Firefighter II, Driver/Operator: Pumper, Emergency Medical Responder, and Hazardous Materials Technician. Commander Hackett is also actively involved in the Ames Fire Department Honor Guard and Hazardous Materials training for the department.
