City Hall and all other City facilities are closed to the public as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19. The closures will be effective after 5 p.m. Thursday, March 19, and will continue through May 15, 2020. City staff will continue to report to their offices and serve the public. Residents are encouraged to conduct City business online or by contacting individual City departments directly. Residents who are unsure how to conduct their City business may contact the City’s customer service hotline from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 515.239.5670.

Property Maintenance Appeals Board

Appointed to hear appeals of decisions rendered by the Building Official or notice of order issued under Rental Housing Code, Chapter 13. The Board shall consist of seven members who are qualified by experience and training to pass on matters pertaining to building and property maintenance and who are not employees of the City of Ames. Members shall consist of: one small/medium property landlord; two neighborhood resident owner-occupants; one long-term tenant; one student tenant; and, one general contractor. Terms shall be for three years, however, the Mayor may make appointments for a lesser term for the purpose of producing or maintaining a staggering of the expiration dates of the terms to be served. No member who has served two consecutive full terms is eligible for reappointment. The Building Official shall serve as an ex officio member.
