Vet Med Trail Closed Beginning March 16

Post Date:03/16/2020 11:30 AM

The Vet Med Trail from south of South Third Street to South 16th Street will be closed beginning today, Monday, March 16, and will remain closed for 16 to 18 months. This closure is necessary as part of the South Grand Avenue Extension project.

The City of Ames has awarded the South Grand Avenue Extension project to Peterson Contractors Inc. (PCI). This project will extend South Grand Avenue to South 16th Street and has a late start date of April 6, 2020.

The City of Ames has a separate contract with Weiss Tree Service Inc., to cut the trees and stockpile them on-site prior to April 1. PCI will be responsible for removing the tree debris from the site as part of the South Grand Avenue Extension project. The Vet Med Trail will be closed for the duration of the entire project because the existing pedestrian bridge will be removed. A new pedestrian bridge will be constructed with the South Grand Avenue Extension project.

All are encouraged to take note of construction activity in the area and allow extra travel time as delays may occur. Exercise caution when traveling near the construction area. For safety reasons, please keep children and pets away from the construction zone.
